Born on April 1,1621 at Guru ke Mahal in Amritsar Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life upholding the ‘Right to Freedom of Religion’ in Delhi on the orders of Emperor Aurangzeb, in the year 1675 A.D. Son of Guru Harigobind, Guru Teg Bahadur acceded to the Guru Gaddi, (seat of Sikh Gurus, reverred by Sikhs all over the world) on March 20, 1665 A.D. at Baba Bakala in Distt. Amritsar. Approached by Kashmiri Pundits to rescue them from the oppression let loose by Mughal Aurangzeb, Guru Teg Bahadur took up cudgels against forceful conversion and was tortured to death by Aurangzeb in his court at Delhi in 1675. |
