Heroes of 1857
In Bihar, the revolt was led by Kunwar Singh, the zamindar of Jagdishpur, a 70 year old man on the brink of bankruptcy. He nursed a grudge against the British. He had been deprived of his estates by them and his repeated appeals to be entrusted with their management again fell on deaf ears. Even though he had not planned an uprising, he unhesitatingly joined the sepoys when they reached Arra from Dinapore. Inspite of his age he proved two quick for the British troops and constantly kept them guessing till his death on 9th May 1858.
