Heroes of 1857
The wife of the deposed Nawab of Awadh, Vazi Dali Shah, she played an important role in 1857 at Lucknow. To seek revenge for the unceremonious removal of her husband by the British India government she organized a small band of soldiers and along with the mutineers surrounded the British Residency at Lucknow. The Residency was completely ruined and British citizens residing there were massacred. Her son, Birjis Qadir, was proclaimed the Nawab and the regular administration was organized with important offices shared equally by Muslims and Hindus. Later on after the defeat of rebels at Lucknow she escaped to Nepal, what happened to her since in not known.
